I honestly have no preference whatsoever when it comes to dresses. I love maxi dresses, midi dresses, short dresses. I love long sleeve, short sleeve, no sleeve, off the shoulder. I love tight dresses and I love a fuller skirt. You get the point…I love dresses. I probably would wear one everyday if I could. I am constantly buying new dresses and I can never part with any that I already own. I have a serious dress problem.
Honestly, it took me a while to feel okay and like the way I look in tighter fighting dresses. I have curves, I do, and I am totally 100% okay with that…but sometimes tighter dresses are harder to pull off and make you feel confident. In order for something to be stylish for me, my number one rule is comfort. If I don’t feel my best in something, it isn’t worth wearing or buying for that matter. I want to step out in an outfit ready to take on the world (wether it be at work, trying to finish my to-do list on the weekends, catching up with my girlfriends, date night, or even taking blog pictures). I don’t want to take away from any of these things by worrying about what I am wearing or fidgeting with an outfit.
So when I want to break out one of my tighter dresses sand I am not feeling 100% in it, I have a few fab tricks to save the day. One, I absolutely love wearing body-hugging dresses with a sleeveless trench. These are so in right now and are super easy to wear! I have one in black and one in gray and I wear them on the weekly. They go with everything from tight dresses to plaid and denim to a slouchy shirt and jeans. The possibilities are endless and I am totally on board!
Two, when I am not feeling the tight dress, I’ll tie a chambray or a plaid shirt around my waist. It hides just the right places but it still looks super fab. I remember when it was an absolute sin to tie anything around your waist. I totally remember like it was yesterday, laughing at old pictures of when I was young with a sweatshirt around my waist. Now, it is totally acceptable to tie anything around your waist. In fact, I would totally throw on a sleek leather jacket over my tight dress and the plaid tied around my waist. Totally acceptable and totally cute.
These two are my favorite ways to still look super fabulous with tight dresses at any size. Tight dresses are definitely not for the skinny minis of the world! NO WAY! If you still aren’t feeling super confident, throw on a trench coat and a bulky scarf to test out the waters. I promise you will love the way you look.
